"I’ve been a patient here for a few months and because of the treatment I have been receiving, I’ve finally started to see results after years of visiting other doctors, trying medications, working with several therapists, and trying so many different things. When I first came here I felt hopeless, but I did so because I knew I needed better medication management. I found this place through my insurance and just took a chance. I liked the other provider I had used in the past for years; however, I kept being switched and moved around because their physicians/psychiatrists would leave the practice and I would end up having to start anew. That’s uncomfortable when you’re dealing with your mental health. The final straw for me was when the psych I was seeing sent me for blood work and “slipped in” a drug test.
I needed to find somewhere trust worthy and respectful of me as a patient. I am my own advocate and I knew it was time to go. When I came to this office, I was called by the woman who manages new patients, Tamara, and immediately I could tell that she cares about every person who walks through the “virtual” door (at first my care was only virtual). She helped me with my paperwork, got me setup and explained all costs too so there wouldn’t be any surprises. The doctor I work with has been fantastic too - Dr. Kevin has taken a comprehensive approach to my health and mental health, and because of the treatment I have received I started to want to become a healthier person because for the first time in a long time I believed that I might feel better if I trusted and listened to this experienced professional.
I changed my medication for the first time in a while, went on something way better for my diagnosis, got off some other prescribed drugs and am now not only feeling better and different but I am also on less medication than when I started. Then, in final, I started my treatment with TMS therapy, which is covered by my insurance 100%, especially now that I hit my deductible. I started on June 9th, and I currently have attended 25/36 sessions. I will finish my treatment on July 28th and this has thus far changed my life. The first week is when I started to feel changes and I have evolved since then. The changes I see in me are: less irritability, less intrusive thoughts, my emotions are more regulated, and I live more in the present. I am not always depressed, even if I don’t have a day filled with joy - I just have a regular day now. I also started this process in the midst of some very difficult situations and I cannot believe how well I have handled these tough times.
All I know is - TMS is changing my life, and I think I am a better person because of it. I will complete my round of sessions, 36 total, going weekly, Monday through Friday, with the amazing Paola, a therapist who administers the TMS “coil” after you are fitted properly, who I have to add is also a positive part of this experience. It is a commitment to go so often but Paola is so accommodating and kind and makes sure she is available to be there for you to get your treatment. She talks to you during too and makes sure it is not scary, that you are alert, answers questions and is just kind and helpful. Clinical Director, Dr. Eric, is also frequently present and is just as great as his staff. Truly this has been a heartwarming, special experience for me and I feel very grateful and lucky to be able to use my insurance for this treatment, but also to be welcomed by the wonderful community at Marriage & Family Services. I don’t know how much longer I could have gone on the way I was, nor could those around me, and this has been a true blessing in my life. My only regret is not finding them sooner or doing TMS way sooner.
If you can visit this office and/or do TMS therapy - please do it for yourself and for those you love who love you too. Thank you for reading and thank you to everyone I mentioned."
