Transcranial magnetic stimulation uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what is used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. While the patient is awake and alert, NeuroStar Advanced Therapy TMS stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression.
Before TMS, dark areas show where brain cells are not functioning as they are meant to function. After TMS, highlighted areas indicate healthy brain function.
Non invasive and non systemic. The only side effect is the possible minor irritation of the scalp.
A typical treatment course consists of 5 treatments per week over a
7 week period.
Each treatment typically lasts between 19-37 minutes. The variation depends on your diagnosis.
You will be fully awake and alert. You can read or watch TV and return to work after your treatment with no restrictions.
